Although note reading, classical finger technique, and careful score study are emphasized, students are also introduced to the concepts of harmony, rhythm patterns, chord charts, and other devices that allow them to start playing by ear, and to create their own arrangements of popular songs.
Music lessons should be fun, and should consistently challenge the student to be better than they were before. "Nate has taught piano to all three of our boys, who now are age 8, 12, and 15. He also led our oldest son's garage band. He has a talent for communicating with kids, where he's fun but also keeps them on task, all while remaining flexible as well. I can see intellectual kids especially liking him. We're big fans of NDT."
- Scott B., Pasadena

"Nate is a once in a lifetime teacher. The kind of teacher that loves the piano so much that the student learns the love for it as well as the skill. He is always patient and thoughtful about lessons and seems to know how to customize his teaching to accommodate the student. He is truly a great teacher and we feel lucky to have him."

" I cannot be generous enough in my admiration and genuine thanks to Mr. Dugi-Turner. For at least 5 years he has taught my son George. For the first few years it was a struggle! Nate was always calm, intelligent, patient, and kind. Now I have a son who has been enriched and says 'Mom, I always want to have Nate, even when I grow up!"
- Lesley-Anne, Malibu
“In the past 5 years that Nate has been teaching my 17 year old daughter piano, I have been delighted to see her consistently achieve new levels of success under his expert guidance and tuition. Nate has the ability to relate to, and understand the student to work at a level that challenges, yet also rewards, and I have seen my daughter grow in confidence through her accomplishments. Nate brings pieces of music that he knows his student will enjoy playing, so it is great to hear my daughter willingly - and confidently - practice Nora Jones, Coldplay, U2 and the Beatles, yet have an understanding of classical music. Nate is encouraging yet understanding of other commitments in a student's life and is consistent in his dedication, commitment and passion of being fully attentive in teaching. He is an incredibly gifted musician who has also composed original work on commission. You will be truly blessed by his work and the impact he has on his student. It is always a pleasure to see him as he is - without fail - professional, kind, respectful and trustworthy. And, if you're lucky, he'll play for you too!
- Andrea T., Malibu
"Nate has been my son's piano teacher for over 5 years. He has a unique and creative way of incorporating diverse styles of music into each lesson, which offers continued interest for my children. I especially appreciate how Nate treats each of my children individually, taking careful consideration of each one's strengths and weaknesses. I, being someone who comes from a line of professional pianists and piano teachers, recognize Nate as a skilled, well-rounded instructor with a modern teaching approach that still respects and integrates traditional classical training. "
- Cindy M., Thousand Oaks
"Nathan is an incredibly passionate & fully committed piano teacher. He has been working with our 13 year old for five years now. He provides excellent piano fundamentals training as well as allowing our daughter to be creative with current song choices. You can't go wrong with Nate, he is the real deal!!!!"
- Cheryl M.S., Newbury Park
"Nate was an incredible teacher. He immediately put me at ease. I am eagerly looking forward to many more lessons to come."
- Melissa F.
"We have thoroughly enjoyed having Nate as a piano instructor for our 8 year old daughter. Nate is not only a very talented musician, but is also a great teacher. He knows how to connect with our child and listens to her in an effort to create an enjoyable learning environment. For example, in addition to teaching the basic fundamentals, Nate frequently consults my child regarding the type and actual music she wants to learn. If he does not have the music, he takes the time to listen to it and compose a piece for her. He goes above and beyond. I have no doubt that he's doing this for his other students as well. He inspires the love of piano/music by being relatable, understanding and creative with his teaching approach. We are grateful to have found him!"
-Melanie O., Simi Valley
